Art and Energy worked in partnership with Plymouth Culture to deliver the Let’s Make Change programme.

Let’s Make Change was all about supporting creative organisations and individuals to respond to the climate emergency. We believe that the cultural and creative sector can make such a huge difference when it comes to responding to the climate emergency.

“We’ve been partnering with Art and Energy for the past 3 years as part of our climate action program. And this year we designed the Let’s Make Change to help artists to think about their practices in a more sustainable their practices in a more sustainable way.”
— Sabrina Candido, Plymouth Culture.

I applied for a few reasons. One because I knew there would be an amazing network of artists and creatives involved in this project. People who want to make a difference, people who are involved in sustainable practice and would like to change the world, really. Because of Let's Make Change, I've become more involved in community projects with young people bringing their ideas into my creative practice in some way, enabling them to put their ideas out into the world. I hope that our work will inspire change and just become more connected with the world and nature and the environment. Kate Crawfurd, artist.

The reason I wanted to be a part of the program is because I thought it'd be a good networking opportunity for like-minded artists who are interested in progressing the future of the work with these sustainable considerations. I think creativity is a good way of addressing environmental ideas because it gets ideas across visually so it's a good way to get people involved. Because of Let's Make Change, I've now got ideas of how I want to move my practice forward bringing in some environmental considerations and seeing how I can integrate it properly and then share these ideas with other people and other creatives. Grace Beswick , artist.

I think artists can play quite a vital role in addressing environmental challenges. They can help to raise awareness of any issues and also maybe suggest a more kind of hopeful way of looking into how we can respond to climate change. Because of Let's Make Change, I've removed the barrier of what I wanted to do as in terms of long-term goals, addressing my own materials and the way that I work more sustainably. That was always an excuse for me not to go for a bigger project that I've been thinking about and so it's kind of removed that barrier. No more excuses, I now can go ahead with my more long-term goals. Erica Luke, artist.

“We’ve been so inspired by all of the ideas, the actions, the projects, the artworks. There’s so much amazing stuff happening in Plymouth and if we can just build on that, we can really share that momentum with everybody.”
