From Peat to Pipe at Market Hall, Plymouth in August
We're delighted to be working with The Market Hall in Devonport, Plymouth; Dartmoor National Park, Dartmoor Preservation Association and many other organisations with an interest in water next week for our first in a series of events that run from this summer to October.
Next week Art and Energy with partners and colleagues will bring free events and workshops to the Market Hall, introducing their new project, Our Land Flows... from Peat to Pipe.
These activities explore the fascinating journey of water from Dartmoor's peatlands to the taps in our homes, while uncovering the heritage of Dartmoor’s historic leats and water systems that follow the contours and gently flow down from the peatlands to the city.
“These are timely events, there is a drought and looking after the wildlife, and farm animals on the moors couldn’t get much harder. We hope to inspire people to consider where their water comes from and understand the water needs of the landscapes around them.”
Whether you're interested in nature, local history, creativity or sustainability, there's something for everyone to enjoy:
📆 17th August
12 noon onwards Free hands-on workshops exploring water, peatlands, wildlife and local heritage through creative activities, drawing, magnifiers, maps and experiments.
📆 19th August
11am – 1pm There will be a special discussion event featuring archaeologists, Dartmoor farmers, peatland managers and water specialists including a speaker from Westcountry Rivers , sharing insights into water management on Dartmoor ,and in Plymouth and our relationship with the natural world.
📆 22nd August
11am – 2pm Free drop-in activities and information sharing for all ages, with interactive experiences, creative challenges and opportunities to learn more about the water landscapes that support Plymouth.
These events are FREE to attend.

While at the Market Hall you may also want to see the 360 immersive film – David Attenborough’s ‘Our Story’. This story of humans and the planet gives you encouragement to make difference – and we think, at the moment, that can be about our water.
