Bogcasts
Peat-Fest South-West is working with podcast creators to record seven bogcasts at our events and workshops. We will capture the voices of people of all ages, sharing their experiences and learning.
All the bogcasts will be available to listen to free of charge and will act as a lasting legacy of our Peat-Fest South-West journey.
Bog-cast links can be found below, we hope you enjoy listening and we’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback hello[@]artandenergy.org
We often look up to the stars for answers, but we are suggesting you might look down for a change. We are handing you a terrestrial telescope and inviting you to go ground gazing with us. What do you see?
Cropped plants, ink spots of water, open mounds of tufted earth. Dive deeper, there is a world beneath, a festival of exchange, a body that brings balance. Peatlands are rich constellations where we can discover ancient histories, cultural heritage and essential ecosystems. Their wisdom can help us to learn more about the world we live in and how to make it a better place together.
Life Force: Bogcast 4 for Peat-Fest South-West
Life Force is our fourth bogcast, join us as we explore voices that have fought for change and taken action against the climate crisis. We will learn how small actions taken to restore and advocate for peatlands have contributed for a greater force for hope and change. We will look at how we can all become part of this movement.
Buried: Bogcast 3 for Peat-Fest South-West
Buried is our third bogcast and explores the worlds contained in peat. We look at how peatlands can store huge amounts of carbon, preserve ancient life forms and sustain current ones.
Wet Land: Bogcast 2 for Peat-Fest South-West
Wet Land, our second bogcast reveals the wettest and flattest areas in the Southwest – the Somerset Levels. The Avalon Marshes team, as well as the marshes themselves tell us how the peatlands have been lived in over thousands of years and about ancient wooden walkways skimming the surface of the water between settlements. They explain how the impact of climate change is causing more frequent flooding in winter and drier summers and how it challenges the careful peatland restoration, modern day living and farming the land. The sound of Hot Poets and the Somerset wetland punctuates this bogcast giving ideas to think through and share with your friends.
Beginnings: Bogcast 1 for Peat-Fest South-West
From the launch of the Festival to our first workshops this summer, this first bogcast, called ‘Beginnings’ gives an idea of the many different voices involved in this celebration of peatlands. From the fantastic specialists and peatland restorers to our young and older participants, with their history and stories to tell, this bogcast asks ‘what is peat?’, encourages curiosity as to why peat is so special and how it reduces the impact of climate change. You will hear facts, fiction and folksong, alongside passion!
With our grateful thanks to Otis Jordan for allowing us to use his beautiful music in our Bogcasts.
