Creativity inspired by water with local artist Kathy Wray

Art and Energy invited local artist Kathy Wray to join us for our September event in Plymouth for our new project, Our Land Flows… From Peat to Pipe.
Kathy led a water-inspired group meditation session for members of the public who joined us for our guided walk exploring watery connections in Plymouth.
We first met Kathy as part of our Let’s Make Change project with Plymouth Culture, a programme designed for creative freelance practitioners to develop their practice as part of a journey towards a greener future.
Kathy also brought along her water-inspired artworks to the Sustainability Hub at the University of Plymouth. Kathy talked to Art and Energy’s Naomi about how water inspires her creative practice.
“I was working with the concept of water and what we control and what we don’t control....working with that as a metaphor for opening up our minds to the element of water.
I just had this idea about putting some eyes on these ink works where the ink is spreading within the water, and it doesn’t necessarily need to be two eyes or in any particular place, but it’s just the concept of water as a living thing.
Thinking of the element like a body of water... we talk about bodies of water and what they hold and the different energies and qualities they contain. And their stories, like the salt carried in water, and it’s quite spiritual, and it’s ageless and timeless.”
