Why do we do it? Reflections from Glastonbury 2025

It’s no secret that many creatives who go to Glastonbury come home with lighter wallets. We were one of them. And yet, like thousands of others, we return year after year, not for profit—but for the magic.

Because there’s something astonishingly generous about the Glasto experience. The sheer scale of creativity, the love that artists pour into every corner of the site—from the hidden stages to the wild costumes—is epic. And the response from the crowd? Pure joy.

This year, we brought The Mossy Carpet and our brand-new interactive solar-powered artwork, Be More Moss, to the Green Futures Field. I’ve stored in my heart countless magical moments: the faces of people as they made the solar artwork come alive with their hands—feeling the good energy flow through them, delighting in the spark of electricity they helped generate.

There were gasps of wonder as we invited people to look through our Be More Moss hand lenses and see the hidden worlds of moss—the intricate, ancient forests that nurture all life. I saw people have long, extrordinary chats in the tardigrade’s telephone box, where people shared the little things they do for a better world. Our pompom-making tent became a haven, a soft space for rest, reflection, and creativity.

And together, we added three more metres to The Mossy Carpet, our epic, evolving, mass-participation artwork. Every stitch another sign of collective hope.

What I felt most strongly was the reciprocity of joy. There’s an economy at Glastonbury that isn’t about money. It might be the economy of love. Of hope. Of showing up and paying it forward.

Because while the headline acts draw the crowds, the real magic often happens around a campfire, in a conversation with a stranger, or under the canvas of a creatively handmade tent. At Regen, and at Art and Energy, I’ve been exploring how we can make more space for collaboration between the cultural and energy sectors. At Glasto, that potential is alive and buzzing. It shows us what’s possible when we dare to imagine together. And during all that, we had the support of our incredible volunteers Christiana, Paul, Sabrina and Gareth. They worked their socks off!

Let’s keep that Glastonbury spirit going—not just for a weekend, but all year round.

If you’d like to bring a little bit of that wonder home with you, we’ve just launched our Crowdfunder, where you can get your own Be More Moss hand lens, support the completion of The Mossy Carpet, and help us keep the magic alive.
