Our Land Flows...from Peat to Pipe: Guided walk, talk and celebration event - Dartmoor

Join us for our final Our Land Flows… from Peat to Pipe event celebrating water on Dartmoor.
10am - 12 noon - a guided walk with Sue Perry from Moorland Guides and organised in partnership with Dartmoor Preservation Association; we will view the usage of the watery landscape both historically and today.
12 noon - 2pm - a celebration and information sharing event with creative activities and tea & cake.
Meet at Burrator Reservoir Discovery Centre (PL20 6PE) for the walk at 10am or from 12 noon onwards for the celebration event.
This event is free and everyone is welcome.
Places are limited and booking is essential.
Our creative partners joining us on the day:
Erica Luke is a visual artist creating mixed media pieces inspired by nature, a sense of place and memories.
Samantha Webb is an artist, illustrator and puppeteer.
Accessibility:
This walk is about 2.5 miles (4 km) along tracks and the road near Burrator reservoir to look at the waterways which feed the reservoir. Some sections of the path have loose stones and are quite steep.

Please come equipped for a day on Dartmoor with waterproof clothing, stout shoes or boots, drinks and snacks and any personal medication. Walking poles or sticks they are recommended if you use them.
Parking:
Please park elsewhere in Burrator and walk to the Discovery Centre and save the parking there for those with a Blue Badge.

Our Land Flows...from Peat to Pipe: Exploring our Watery Connections to Plymouth (Guided walk, talk and celebration event)
Our Land Flows…from Peat to Pipe: Exploring our Watery Connections to Plymouth
Join us for a guided walk and talk exploring water in the City of Plymouth and how it links back to Dartmoor, both historically and today. We’ll be joined by experts who will share their knowledge.
We’ll meet near Drake’s Reservoir at the University of Plymouth at 10am.

Guided walk 10am - 12 noon.
Stephen Luscombe, Chair of The Historical Association - Plymouth Branch, will lead our guided walk. The walk will be at a gentle pace covering ~2.7km, using pavements and pedestrian crossings - we aim to be as accessible as possible.
12 noon - 2pm
Find us at the Sustainability Hub, Kirkby Lodge, University of Plymouth, PL4 8AA.
We’ll stop for lunch - please bring your own, and tea & cake.
There will be the opportunity to meet Kathy Wray (visual artist working with drawing, collage, painting and print) and learn more about her creative approach to water and the environment.
Stephen will give an illustrated talk of his earlier guided walk for those who are unable to join the walk or wish to learn more.
Join us for either the walk or the follow up event of both, everyone welcome.

Our Land Flows…from Peat to Pipe
Art and Energy will be running a drop in day of activities at Market Hall, Plymouth on Saturday 22nd August.
We’ll be sharing activities linked to mosses, peatlands, water, creativity, maps and Dartmoor.
There will also be the opportunity to talk to our team about the history of water on Dartmoor and share your knowledge with us.
These sessions will be free of charge and everyone is welcome to join us.
Drop in any time from 11am - 2pm, you can book a place to join us or turn up on the day.

Art and Energy will be running a drop in public workshop and information sharing session on Wednesday 19th August, 2-3pm. We’ll be sharing activities linked to mosses, peatlands, water, creativity, maps and Dartmoor.

There will also be the opportunity to see our In Moss and Moor 360 film in the dome at Market Hall, Plymouth free of charge from 1-2pm.
The workshop follows our learning and networking session for land managers, the farming community and other interested adults.
The workshop and film showing are open to all and children are welcome.

Our Land Flows…from Peat to Pipe
Join Art and Energy and our partners for a supported learning opportunity with talks and discussions plus a few speakers for short presentations and questions ranging from farm management and leat history to more strategic headwater peatland management.
11am for refreshments and networking
11.30am - 1pm for talks, discussions and presentations.

Celebrating the brilliance of bogs
Bog Day is celebrated around the world every year on the fourth Sunday in July. This year we'll be celebrating the brilliance of bogs on Sunday 26 July 2026.
This annual event, in celebration of bogs, fens, swamps and marshes, is an opportunity to raise awareness of all peatlands – the benefits they provide, the threats they face and the ways we can all help protect them.
